LinkedIn vs Meta ads for B2B: what each buys, what it costs, when each wins, and how to split the budget

Quick Answer
LinkedIn reaches a chosen B2B buyer by title, company and seniority with formats that get read; Meta reaches the same people at home for a third of the price with targeting inferred from behaviour. At the median B2B account LinkedIn costs $36 per 1,000 impressions and $17.54 per landing page click; Meta typically $10 to $25 and $1 to $4 for B2B campaigns. That gap is the whole decision: Meta wins on cheap reach, retargeting of site visitors and creative testing; LinkedIn wins on cold prospecting to a senior buyer, account lists, thought leader ads and anything where who clicked matters more than how many. Since Meta removed job-title and employer targeting (2022 to 2024), it cannot buy a B2B list at every seniority; LinkedIn can. Most B2B accounts over $10,000 a month run LinkedIn as the primary and Meta as the retargeting layer. LinkedIn figures are Kiin Labs' 2026 panel; Meta figures are typical B2B ranges.

When LinkedIn wins

  • The buyer has a title. "VP Finance at a 500-to-5,000-person company" is a LinkedIn audience; on Meta it is a lookalike of whoever is on your customer list, which is not the same thing.
  • The plan is a list. Account-based programmes need the list at every seniority and a report by company; Meta has neither.
  • The format is the message. Thought leader ads (read, not skipped; 22% cheaper per landing page click than the company version), document ads (20% form completion), message ads (40% completion) do not exist on Meta.
  • The deal is large. At a five-figure deal, a $343 demo lead from the right title beats a $60 lead from the wrong one.
  • The audience is senior. Executives click through at 0.29% on LinkedIn, the best of any audience cut, and Meta's inferred targeting cannot isolate them.

When Meta wins

  • Retargeting site visitors. The same person, at home, at $10 to $25 CPM instead of $46. This is the standard use of Meta in a B2B plan.
  • Creative testing. Find the hook on Meta for a few hundred dollars, then run the winner on LinkedIn where a test costs ten times as much.
  • SMB, product-led or founder-led sales. Broad buyer, short cycle, a product people can start using: Meta's reach and price fit, and LinkedIn's SMB-only audience ($39 CPM, $12.57 per click) covers the senior slice.
  • Founder and personal brand at scale. Reels and Stories reach a founder's audience for less; the LinkedIn version of the same play is thought leader ads to the list.
  • Events and communities where the audience is already following you and the job is to remind, not to find.

How they work together

LinkedIn creates the visit from the named list; the Meta pixel catches the visitor; Meta runs the follow-up at a third of the price; both feed the same CRM. LinkedIn's own retargeting still runs for ad engagers and video viewers who never visited, because those audiences do not leave LinkedIn. Creative hooks are found on Meta and promoted on LinkedIn. Reported on one page: reach and engagement on the list (LinkedIn), retargeting reach and cost (Meta), pipeline by source (CRM). That is how the two sit in our paid media plan, and why we do not run Meta cold prospecting for a senior B2B buyer.

FAQ

Is LinkedIn or Meta better for B2B ads? +
LinkedIn for reaching a chosen buyer (title, company, seniority) with formats that get read; Meta for cheap reach, retargeting and creative testing on the same people at home. LinkedIn costs $36 CPM at the median B2B account against roughly $10 to $25 on Meta, so Meta buys two to three times the impressions; LinkedIn's impressions are the ones you chose. Most B2B accounts over $10,000 a month run LinkedIn as the primary and Meta as the retargeting and creative-testing layer.
Do Facebook and Instagram ads work for B2B? +
For retargeting and for founder-led or product-led SMB sales, yes: cheap impressions on people who already know you. For cold prospecting to a senior B2B buyer, rarely: Meta's professional targeting is inferred from behaviour and its lookalikes model demographics, not job titles. Meta cannot buy a company list at every seniority; LinkedIn can.
Which is cheaper, LinkedIn or Meta ads? +
Meta, per impression and per click: roughly $10 to $25 CPM and $1 to $4 per click for B2B campaigns, against LinkedIn's $36 CPM and $17.54 per landing page click at the median account. Per qualified lead the order often reverses for a senior B2B buyer, because Meta's cheap clicks include a large share of people who cannot buy. Compare on cost per opportunity, not per click.
Can I use Meta to retarget LinkedIn visitors? +
Yes, and it is the most common way the two work together: LinkedIn creates the visit from the named list, the Meta pixel catches the visitor, Meta shows the follow-up at $10 to $25 CPM instead of LinkedIn's $46 retargeting CPM. The pools are separate (LinkedIn's engagement audiences do not export), so retargeting on Meta needs a site visit; LinkedIn's own retargeting covers ad engagers and video viewers who never visited.
Does Meta have company or job title targeting? +
Meta removed most detailed B2B targeting (employer, job title, industry) between 2022 and 2024. What remains is interest and behaviour targeting, lookalikes built from your customer list, custom audiences from email lists and the pixel, and Advantage+ automation. A B2B company list uploaded to Meta matches on personal emails, which is why match rates are low.
How should a B2B company split LinkedIn and Meta? +
LinkedIn-led for anything with a named buyer or a deal over about $10,000: 70 to 85% LinkedIn, 15 to 30% Meta for retargeting and creative testing. Meta-led for SMB, product-led or founder-led sales with a short cycle and a broad buyer: 50 to 70% Meta, the rest LinkedIn for the senior slice. Under $5,000 a month, one platform, chosen by who the buyer is.
